(YYJ) is the 11th busiest airport in Canada with almost 2 million visitors per year. YYJ was rated one of the top ten most-loved airports in the world by CNN Travel and is the 2012, 2014 and 2020 winner of ‘Best Regional Airport in North America’ by Airports Council International.

Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) is the not-for-profit authority that manages the safe and secure operations of the Victoria International Airport on behalf of the surrounding communities.

The Challenges

In January of 2020, the Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) published an RFP for a Parking Access and Revenue Control System. Their then-current system was quickly approaching end-of-life, with fewer functioning days versus non-functioning days. While their goal was to have the parking experience be part of their overarching vision of making every part of travel interaction as easy as possible, they also faced some very real concerns. At the top of their list—a system that was robust, reliable, and made for the high-volume, high-density, 24/7/365 environment that is unique to airports and hospitals. Other key attributes of the system must include an intuitive customer experience, revenue generation, modern IT architecture, revenue control, audit, and reporting, and system support.

Chief considerations included the fact that the airport is situated on an island, requiring a minimum 3.5-hour trip one-way from anyone in Vancouver, and the existence of an in-place management and service contract with the island’s primary parking operator.The airport’s proximity to downtown Toronto offers passengers convenient access to the centre of Canada’s entertainment, fashion, and financial districts, but its island location poses significant issues for managing parking on both sides of the ferry.

The VAA—in its review and evaluation of submitted proposals—was clear on what they would be rating and evaluating (with a call-to-action for proponents to offer new and/or innovative solutions):

The Solutions

After a Covid-related pause, VAA awarded the contract to Precise ParkLink for not only the supply, installation, commissioning, and advanced maintenance of our pay-on-foot gated technology and our LPR systems, but also for the related, in-scope civil and construction work, as well as the addition of our Parkedin platform with the Mobile Payment module (with the intention to add additional Parkedin modules of interest as they come online, such as our reservations platform).

VAA chose to engage the services of a third party project management team to coordinate project deliverables and take on the role of liaison between VAA and Precise ParkLink, to facilitate and expedite the delivery of the project. This addition to the larger project and implementation team was highly successful and regarded by all as a key component of the timely delivery and accomplishment of the undertaking.

In an unprecedented move, the airport decided to move with a pay station-free configuration; parkers can either pay with Parkedin, pay at exit, or at the one staffed exit lane. With 21 entry and exit lanes equipped with EMV-certified payment solutions and barcode scanners, parkers have adjusted easily to the new payment schema. They also deployed our IPASS solution for permit management and administration (including billing, rights, rules and access management), as well as our ParkSuite BI Tool.

Located at the northwest corner of Front Street and Spadina Avenue, The Well features 3,000,000 sq. ft. of retail, office, and residential space directly in the heart of downtown Toronto.

This world-class development was built in partnership between RioCan REIT and Allied Properties to deliver an urban environment centred around creativity and connectivity backed by the experience and market presence of a leader in Canadian commercial management sector.

The Challenges 

Located Construction of The Well was complicated by two main factors: it is diagonally opposed to the Rogers Centre and, prior to going live in 2022, it was the largest construction site in the Greater Toronto Area.

But it was also an incredible opportunity to design an uncompromising solution for a major commercial client to provide a premium parking experience for their users while simultaneously creating an important revenue generator for the facility. The prime downtown location makes The Well an attractive parking opportunity not only for visitors to the site, but to nearby attractions and destinations as well.The Solutions

The Challenges

Aptly named, Transit City acts as a major transportation hub in Toronto’s north end, and facilitating customers’ journeys wherever they’re going meant designing a seamless parking experience every step of the way.

The Solution

Achieving greater system throughput to address growing traffic volumes meant integrating license plate recognition technology into Skidata’s gated parking system installed in entry and nested lanes. As the VMC continues to expand, the city has faced many challenges regarding parking. With significant congestion from the VMC subway station, and only two temporary paid parking lots on-site, it has been difficult for residents, visitors, commuters, and business owners to navigate the area smoothly and find available parking.  

The Solutions

In October 2021, Precise ParkLink successfully deployed an on-street parking program that allows VMC and the city of Vaughan to increase the amount of parking available for passenger pick-up and drop-off, reduce traffic congestion in and around the area, and facilitate safe driver and pedestrian journeys. Paid parking is now enforced through pay-by-license-plate meter technology, fully integrated with ʲ徱™, Precise ParkLink’s mobile payment platform that allows users to scan, pay, and proceed to their destination. Precise ParkLink also deployed a strategic marketing and communications plan unique to the VMC that drives awareness and eases customer pain points.

Following a change in tenants, the Yonge Sheppard Centre saw a dramatic reduction in the number of vehicles parking after 11:00 p.m. As a result, RioCan began exploring how they could effectively maintain a premium customer service experience without substantial traffic volumes to warrant 24/7 staffing throughout their parking facilities. With an immediate need to minimize operating expenses, RioCan approached Precise ParkLink for a solution.

The Solution

Upon receiving RioCan’s request, Precise ParkLink proposed deploying their Interactive Parking Assistance Response Centre (IPARC™) program to continue providing a 24/7 service and support presence for Yonge Sheppard Centre’s customers without having to commit to staffing a dedicated overnight shift.

Within less than one week, our technicians were on-site, making the necessary modifications to the hardware. Our client relations manager worked closely with RioCan to develop a specific site profile. “I could not have been more pleased with Precise ParkLink’s implementation team. The transition to the IPARC system was completely seamless, and we received no customer complaints about the two-day installation period," said Garofalo.

This was our client's opportunity to outline what kind of service they want their customers to receive — right down to a standardized greeting, how to process lost ticket requests, where pay stations are located to direct customers, how to provide payment instructions, and more. From this, we developed formal operating procedures for the site and distributed the document to our IPARC client care team, who would ultimately be responsible for providing the overnight coverage.

Yonge Sheppard Centre could leverage IPARC as a low-cost staffing alternative without sacrificing service levels or equipment reliability. Our factory-trained monitoring staff not only provide overnight coverage for eight hours seven days a week, but they are available during regular business hours to act as a backup for breaks and in the case of emergencies.
