The Relevance of Digital Marketing in Today’s Business Landscape

Digital marketing encompasses all online efforts to reach and engage with potential customers. It enables organizations to target vast audiences, foster brand recognition, and generate conversions.

The Rapid Evolution of Digital Marketing Strategies

Over the years, especially within the last decade, digital marketing strategies have evolved dramatically, leveraging technological advancements to deliver consumers more personalized and engaging experiences.

In the early 2010s, we gained greater importance in search engine optimization or SEO. Businesses started to explore email marketing and social media as marketing tools. In the mid-2010s, there was a strong focus on content marketing, designing responsive and mobile-friendly websites, tracking data and analytics to gain insights into your campaigns, and social media paid advertising gaining popularity. In the early 2020s, artificial intelligence entered the industry, including generative AI platforms like Chat GPT and a new Google search experience that enhances how we search for information online. We have also seen a huge rise in influencer marketing.

The Importance of Setting Clear Goals

Implementing a digital marketing strategy requires a clear and well-defined objective. Employing the SMART framework emphasizes Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-based goals. Having a clear goal in mind will allow you to tailor your marketing strategies accordingly.

Developing a Holistic Marketing Strategy for Your Operation

Digital marketing is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Choosing the right path for you is essential based on your organization's unique goals.

Appearing in top search results on Google is easier than you may think. However, it does encompass several critical factors. The first step in any successful digital marketing strategy is establishing an SEO-friendly online presence for your parking facility, featuring all the information your customers need to know if they plan to park there.

After setting up your online presence, adding your parking facility's address to multiple online maps and in-car navigation services is essential. This allows drivers to locate your site quickly on their maps when pre-planning their trip. From there, you can begin to explore tools like social media and paid advertisements on Google to highlight your parking facility's amenities and features, driving traffic to your website and boosting your SEO and Google ranking.

Something essential to consider when investing in digital marketing is ensuring you have online support resources to assist customers and protect your online reputation. Tracking several key performance indicators will also allow you to see what's working and what isn't and tailor your approach accordingly.

Allocating an Appropriate Budget & Next Steps

When allocating an appropriate budget, a good starting point is 10 -15% of your monthly revenue. This will give you an excellent foundation to explore different tactics and their effectiveness. Another thing to verify if you are currently receiving digital marketing services is whether or not your provider is using digital marketing best practices. This will impact your performance—so you'll want to ensure you're getting the best service by asking the right questions and showing your provider that you know what you're talking about.

Today, businesses face a variety of mandatory financial compliance requirements that they must abide by to keep customers' data safe, secure, and private. How a business processes, stores, and safeguards a customer’s data requires special handling that follows the financial mandate regulations.

Precise ParkLink recently hosted an insightful discussion on the current financial processing landscape and upcoming compliance mandates. The panel included Doug Hatton, Vice President of Client Solutions at Moneris, a leader in Canada's technology-enabled debit and credit card processing solutions, and Cynthia Bruce, Senior Proposal Writer here at Precise ParkLink.

In case you missed the Setting Your Parking Operation Up for Success— Upcoming Financial Mandates You Need to Know About webinar, we've summarized the key discussion points below.

Watch the full Webinar below!

The Cashless Transition: What You Need to Consider

Did you know that Canada is on track to becoming completely cashless by 2030? According to Moneris, there has been a 70% drop in cash-based transactions in the last seven years.

Now more than ever, customers prefer simple and convenient payment solutions, especially regarding parking. Combining cash and cashless payment options will help your organization—and your customers—through the cashless transition period that the country is currently undergoing. As a parking facility owner or manager, it is crucial to adapt your operations to keep pace. Your parking provider should be offering certified cash collection and handling procedures, secure replenishment services, accounting services, revenue management reporting, monthly financial statements, direct deposits, and all forms of payment methods offered in today's market.

Past Rules & Mandates: Encouraging Best Practice

It’s important to know the previous rules and financial compliance mandates that have been set in place so you can determine if you are up-to-date and are ready for the upcoming mandates.

Fraud Liability Shift

and mandate shifting liability for counterfeit fraud to merchants in Europay, MasterCard & Visa (EMV) Chip not accepted.

Timeline:

  • March 2011.

 Interac Chip Mandates

Issuers and acquirers (including merchants) must use EMV Chips.

Timeline:

  • December 31, 2012 - All Interac Debit cards, and all automated banking machines.

  • December 31, 2015 - All merchant payment terminals.

  • January 1, 2026 – No terminal allowed to accept Interact if EMV not supported.

Contactless Mandates

Policies from Visa and Mastercard requiring merchants to support their contactless mandates.

Timeline:

  • January 1, 2012 – Visa Contactless Payment Specification (“VCPS”) version 2.0 or higher

  • January 1, 2019 – Mastercard Contactless 3.0.

  • October 19, 2019 – Mag. Stripe no longer accepted by Visa.

Mastercard Revised Interchange

Interchange structure revamped to differentiate the risk associated with different technology.

Timeline:

  • May 2020 – The cost of Magnetic Stripe Data (MSD) transactions for merchant become 30 basis points higher on average.

Making Mandates Make Sense: Upcoming Financial Compliance Mandates

It’s important to be in the know of what is upcoming for financial compliance mandates and how they will be changing the way you do business.

Mastercard contactless EMV

Mastercard will be retiring MSD, as a result, all terminals must allow contactless EMV transactions.

Application:

  • October 1, 2022 – New contactless-enabled terminals must only support EMV.

  • April 1, 2023 – All contactless-enabled terminals must only support EMV.

Visa EMV mandate for all terminals

In 2017, Visa announced that all terminals must support EMV chip by October 15, 2022.

  • The mandate applies to all terminals both attended and unattended.

Visa MSD transaction fee

Mandate along with fraud liability shift to encourage adoption of EMV chip transactions.

Additional Mandates Impacting Terminals

Established dates to remove expired PCI PTS terminals from service.

Timeline:

  • December 31, 2022 – Never approved by Visa or PCI.

  • December 31, 2022 – Pre-PCI approved.

  • December 31, 2022 – PCI Pts 1.x

  • December 2027 – PCI PTS 2.x

  • December 2023 – PCI PTS 3.x

  • (Removal dates not set for PCI PTS 4.x or higher)

The Impacts on Your Organization: The Good & The Bad

With these changes coming into effect, it’s important to know the impact they can have on your organization, both the good and the bad.

Non-Compliant Terminals

With the new mandates coming into play, the legacy terminal will become unable to comply with the new mandates, which will impact your ability to do processing and could bring new fees. You may end up with a terminal that becomes obsolete or with a terminal that you end up paying a lot more for the processing. It’s important that your parking provider is getting you the latest and greatest so you can stay processing transactions.

Cost Savings

There are some benefits to staying compliant, you’ll avoid the non-compliance fee (Visa MSD fee) and higher interchange rates (Mastercard revised interchange). With these newer devices and standards, the liability on fraud gets reduced.

Solution Upgrade Considerations: Preparing You for The Future

When planning to upgrade your terminals to new compliance standards, some things you need to evaluate are:

Simplified Integration

Years ago, doing full integrations was a very strenuous task, requiring many certifications and patience. The way integrations are done today has evolved a lot in the payment industry from what they used to be. Today, the industry uses API Based integrations making the process a lot simpler and quicker to get the integrations done, improving your parking system by setting you up for success.

  • API Based Integration

  • Pre-validated EMV solutions

  • Semi-integrated

  • IP/Cloud Solutions

  • Device management – remote management

  • PCI compliance

Fraud Management

Be proactive in your approach. Consider implementing:

  • Card testing prevention.

  • Velocity controls.

  • Preventative/ID bot testing.

  • BIN blocking.

3D Secure 2.0

  • New industry standard for reducing fraud in card-not-present transactions.

  • Chargeback liability shifted to card brands.

  • Improved checkout experience from real-time authentication.

  • Transactions carry lower interchange rates.

Data Protection

It’s very important in this modern world of technology to have good data protection set in place to reduce attacks.

E2EE

  • Encryption of data within PINpad.

P2PE

  • Encryption of data within PINpad

  • Full end-to-end management.

  • Official PCI certification.

Setting Your Operation Up for Success: Questions You Should Be Asking

Before getting started, we’ve compiled a list of a few questions that facility owners and managers, like you, should be asking their parking operators to ensure that your parking operation is as secure and adaptable as possible:

  • Does your provider abide by PCI compliance procedures?

  • What are their cash handling and shrinkage protocols and policies?

  • Will your provider directly deposit your parking revenue into your account?

  • Does your provider undergo regular CSAE external audits to ensure they meet financial industry protocols?

  • Does your provider supply monthly financial statements and revenue management reporting?

  • Does your provider offer EMV-certified payments and various payment types?

  • Does your provider stay up to date with financial processing mandates?

What is the metaverse?

To simplify the metaverse, it is an alternate digital reality that we can engage with in different ways. Like the internet, multiple metaverses are often built on different platforms. It is important to remember that there are various ways people can engage with different types of metaverses. The division right now lies between virtual reality versus augmented reality. Virtual reality creates an immersive virtual environment, whereas augmented reality is the experience that combines the real world and computer-generated content. This involves overlaying visual, auditory, or other sensory information in the real world.

What industries are entering the metaverse?

The first types of organizations to embrace the metaverse were those in the gaming and entertainment spaces. However, it is slowly being adopted by others, such as banks, major retailers, and more. This can commonly be attributed to the fifth industrial revolution—the merging of human beings, artificial intelligence and technology, and people exploring what they want to experience in the virtual world. The exploration of social services in the metaverse has already come to fruition. It will allow individuals to complete everyday tasks or actions previously only tethered to the real world.

Why do we need the metaverse?

Businesses must start looking at being a part of that early adoption cycle. If you think back to the late 90s and early 2000s, there was a huge rush for companies to get onto the internet and establish their online presence. As we look to the future, almost, if not all, industries will shift to offering a metaverse-like experience. Enhancing the physical world with a digital experience is precisely what will become of the metaverse. Things such as 3D mapping are an essential first step that allows businesses to enter the metaverse or launch their own. The metaverse is based on immersive 3D experiences, and 3D maps are how we generate 3D experiences. From there, we can discover the various opportunities for your business in this virtual world.

How is the metaverse being built?

The metaverse can be built on many different types of platforms; the two most popular ones being and . Most of these platforms leverage cryptocurrency and a blockchain mechanism. And that the foundational system architecture that metaverses are upon. These terms are an easy way to understand that these are the building blocks of the metaverse. Knowing that every platform has a limited space is essential, making it valuable for companies looking to create a digital twin in the metaverse.

Why should businesses embrace the metaverse today?

Businesses must embrace the metaverse as it is an alternative way to deliver services to customers in real-time. From a parking perspective, augmented reality can help elevate customer experiences and customer service protocols. One way it can do so is by guiding customers entering a parking facility to their reserved parking space. But the opportunities don't stop there. It's a way to improve customer experiences in any industry in meaningful ways.

What's the first step to getting started?

Familiarizing yourself with the technology and the applications that are out there. From there, you can pinpoint what opportunities are available for your business— including increasing revenues, bettering your management strategies, or improving your operations. Doing this will allow you to unlock opportunities you never knew existed. Always start small, and the rest will follow.

What are the opportunities for parking management in the metaverse?

The metaverse will soon offer many opportunities for the parking and mobility industry, making it a necessary consideration when looking to futurize your parking management strategy and set your facility up for success. One of these key opportunities  is being able to manage your facility in real-time without having to be onsite. This not only reduces pain points but increases positive experiences—whether it be for the parking facility owner, manager or customers. The metaverse is here, and it's here to stay—making it an important consideration when looking to evolve your parking management strategies.

The metaverse's full adoption is much closer than you may think. Stay ahead of the curve by ensuring your business strategies are forward-thinking and incorporate evolving, interoperable technologies such as the metaverse.

We've summarized the key discussion points below in case you missed our webinar on The Paradigm Shift in Parking Management.

The World has Changed. Have you?

Technology has and continues to shape the world in which we live. Over the past three years, technology has advanced rapidly, driven by society's need to adapt to swiftly changing and unpredictable circumstances. We’ve witnessed technological transformations in almost every realm of our daily lives, including how we work, play, learn, socialize, shop, and bank. This is only the onset of a predestined shift towards an increasingly connected and tech proficient world. To a business owner or a manager, the advancement of technology may seem like an intimidating and perpetual concept – almost as if you’re scaling a mountain without the possibility of reaching the summit. However, organizations should keep in mind that as overwhelming as it might seem, technology is a valuable tool to help you save on expenses, add efficiency to your operations, and boost your overall profits.

Every industry has undergone an extensive shift in operational strategies to keep pace with technological progressions, and the parking and mobility industry is no outlier to that fact. We have observed various trends within the parking industry, including the development of parking and mobility apps allowing customers to pay for parking and reserve their parking ahead of time, along with smart parking solutions such as parking guidance systems and sensors. In the coming years, the most significant trend within this industry will continue to be hardware automation and hardware electrification as the population begins to shift towards electric vehicles. The demand for EV charging stations will overhaul the parking industry, creating a substantial profit-making opportunity for businesses.

However, this is only the beginning of the technological advancements coming to this sector. The evolution of Artificial Intelligence into “Digital Humans” and the advances of machine learning and automated holograms will send the parking & mobility industry soaring towards a technological revolution of its own rendition.

Market Update: Parking Occupancy & Management Strategies

Parking occupancy levels are slowly returning to pre-pandemic levels. Over the past few months, there have been some optimistic upwards trends in revenue generation and occupancy when evaluating monthly and transient parking data and the overall number of customers who are using parking lots. Nonetheless, there is still a long road ahead until pre-COVID revenues and occupancy levels are reached. No matter the industry, all businesses have been forced to pivot from their standard management strategies and depend heavily on technology partners to guide them through uncertain times and towards the inevitable future of a technologically advanced society.

Organizations have had to quickly adapt both smart hardware and software integrations at their sites, such as virtual connections to CSRs, touch-free and frictionless interactions with hardware components and the ability to provide immediate customer service via intercoms and scan-for-assistance signage. This has ensured that a business can meet evolving consumer expectations while continuing to provide seamless customer experiences from start to finish.

Case Study: Managing with Technology at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton

The COVID-19 pandemic forced (SJHH) to quickly re-evaluate its onsite parking strategy from an infection control perspective. SJHH comprises three different campuses, each with its own specific needs but each requiring a swift solution to an identical problem: How could access to their parking lots be granted with the least amount of contact and touchpoints? The answer was easy: adopting new technologies to streamline their operation while providing a safe and frictionless experience for patients and visitors.

SJHH quickly modified the gated systems at each site, integrating hardware such as touchless entry achieved through customers waving their hands over a sensor at the entrance column and tap-and-go technology for card payments. This enabled SJHH to eliminate all touchpoints from a customer's initial arrival at the site to their departure.

From the staff perspective, all hospital employees were switched over to RFID permit technology, using hospital badges or transponders to access parking areas rather than touchpoints on the entry and exit terminals. This permit technology also conveniently allowed SJHH to monitor their staff to ensure they complied with the set parking rules and regulations.

Implementing virtual customer service at their sites added a personal touch for patients. Working collaboratively with their remote monitoring system, this technological solution provided SJHH with the assurance of continuous backup support for their operation, particularly after hours. All St. Joseph’s sites are monitored, a proactive strategy and part of a client-centred approach to ensure first-rate customer service.

Understanding How to Successfully Manage Parking with Technology

Traditional parking management tended to rely on the performance of people and the requirement of having staff onsite. Today, however, technology can supplement everything from parking enforcement to customer service to marketing. As technology advances, the division between parking equipment and parking management seizes to exist. Ultimately, organizations and their consumers have expectations and goals that both seek convenient and worry-free experiences. Managing your parking operation with innovative technological solutions becomes a win-win scenario for business and customer satisfaction.

Here are the four main ways of leveraging parking technology to create a paradigm shift that focuses on crafting easy and efficient experiences for you and your customers:

1. Smart Hardware & Software

Every parking operation begins with some level of technology. Whether it's gates or multi-space meters, technology is the foundation of any successful parking program. Be that as it may, parking technology has changed significantly from the conventional coin-based parking meters that lined city streets and parking lots. There are now a variety of intuitive hardware solutions that allow for a seamless parking experience and provide you with actionable data insights to help streamline your operation. Thanks to intelligent and connected gated and meter technologies, license plate recognition, parking guidance systems, and EV charging stations, property managers have unlimited access to onsite activities, allowing them to stay up to date on key performance indicators (KPIs) and the overall progress of their parking program.

2. Digital Customer Service

Ensuring the needs and expectations of your customers are consistently met is essential to running a successful parking operation. For this reason, it is vital to invest in solutions that make managing your program and your customers' needs less challenging. Innovative technologies such as remote site monitoring and digital customer service ensure a 24/7 connection to your onsite operations and devices. This digital operation streamlines processes, reduces costs, and provides ongoing communication with your customers and your onsite equipment. Parking solutions such as immediate, multi-lingual customer assistance and device monitoring with back-end support guarantee that your business's pulse remains strong.

3. Self-Management Tools

Having complete insights and control over your parking portfolio is easily achieved by integrating self-management tools that allow you to manage your parking program from anywhere at any time. Leveraging analytics and business intelligence tools, live system monitoring and application control, revenue reporting, validation, subscriber, and reservation management enable a unified strategy that allows you to connect, oversee, and maximize results. Smart parking operations need to utilize these tools to pinpoint what is and isn't working within their facilities and make the necessary readjustments or additions.

4. Creative Digital Marketing

Parking facilities are no longer just a place for your customers to park their cars. They are destinations fuelled by creative strategies that drive impactful results. Implementing unified strategies such as digital marketing, signage and wayfinding, loyalty programs, advertising, and last-mile services will enable a next-level parking operation while improving your customer experiences and transforming your ability to manage your facility.

Leveraging technology is an essential component of running a successful parking operation. Integrating intelligent technologies will give you the insights to manage more efficiently, increase operational performance and deploy dynamic solutions.

In Case You Missed It: BI WebinarairportThu, 31 Mar 2022 18:45:22 +0000/event-news/in-case-you-missed-it-exploring-the-power-of-parking-bi-data-analytics-webinar-round-up606df7dd6b47261d19840040:607e0c7eef0b2d7262964182:6245f6c25c13830179f3490cExploring the Power of Parking BI, Data & Analytics Webinar Round Up

9 min read

Business intelligence (BI), data, and analytics are powerful tools that your business needs to succeed—and the same holds true for your parking operations.

As a facility or property manager, it is critical to understand how you can leverage BI to explore valuable data insights to enhance your portfolio strategy and generate positive customer experiences.

We recently hosted an informative discussion on how BI can help develop a greater understanding of your business, including your parking operations. The panel included Maria Pallante, Executive Vice President of Client Operations at , and Cynthia Bruce, Senior Proposal Writer at Precise ParkLink.

In case you missed our webinar on Exploring the Power of Parking BI, Data & Analytics, we've summarized the key discussion points.

The Power Behind BI

Data-driven decision-making is essential for all businesses, regardless of size or sector. As a result, BI is a requirement for any organization to understand their customers, monitor performance, identify areas of improvement, and control results by deploying solutions that have a set goal in mind.

When seeking BI tools suited to your business needs, it is vital to have a centralized, scalable, and intuitive reporting suite. The data and analytics collected from your BI platform should be tailored specifically to your needs with the flexibility to modify and expand in alignment with evolving business objectives.

A well-established BI tool that can work with multiple data sets from a central platform is vital to that data being analyzed and acted on promptly. It also helps considerably if the data is presented in a visual format that a user can ingest, understand, and confidently make decisions. Implementing a business intelligence platform is a simple but effective way for any organization to achieve growth, improve inefficiencies and maintain its bottom line.

Leveraging Parking BI

Now – more than ever – organizations of all sizes are gathering data to gain new insights into their customers and develop a greater overall understanding of their business. The parking and mobility industry is no different.

Parking is an industry that is rich in raw data, and the more intelligent the technology in place to support a parking operation, the deeper and broader the data set that becomes available to owners and managers.

Data and analytics are the backbones of any successful parking operation. If you do not have access to real-time parking data, implementing smart and connected technologies that generate data is where you should begin. Reports such as parking access, revenue control systems, license plate recognition, and parking guidance systems will provide you with the tools to fuel future growth.

As a starting point, here are a few ways you can gain access to data within your parking facility:

Invest in Connected Hardware Solutions such as:

•&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ; Pay Stations

•&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ; EV Chargers

•&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ; Parking Guidance Systems and Sensors

•&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ; License Plate Recognition

Set up Points where Customers can be Identified:

•&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ; Permit readers (barcode/BLE)

•&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ; Mobile platforms

•&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ; Sensor Technology

•&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ;&Բ; License plate recognition

Identifying and Understanding Parking KPIs

Once you have access to data and analytics, the next step is to identify useful key performance indicators (KPIs). When identifying KPIs for your parking operation, it's essential to consider your bottom line or your "main goal." What are you trying to achieve for your business or your facility? Pinpointing your principal business objective is crucial in determining the KPIs you should be tracking.

After determining your bottom line, you will need to evaluate your customers’ behaviour. This can include everything about a customer, including their demographics, the type of car they drive, and the time of day and reason for their visit. Understanding your customers' behaviours will allow you to understand better who is using your parking facility and when helping you make well-informed decisions about your operation strategy.

Above all, you will want to examine the parking revenue generation of your facility. The amount of revenue coming in is a direct representation of the performance of your parking operations. Furthermore, it is also vital to be tracking your occupancy rates. Not only does this help you gauge how frequently your parking facility is being used, but it gives you direct insight into your parking occupancy trends. This, in turn, helps you deploy successful sales and marketing techniques such as dynamic pricing and last-mile services.

As consumer expectations continue to evolve, so will your operation. Real-time parking data and analytics are essential in identifying what is working and what may need to be changed to continue to meet your customers’ and your parking operation’s needs. Gaining an in-depth understanding of all areas of your operation will allow you to propose and implement changes to improve your parking operations, increase revenue, and make data-supported projections for future growth.

Taking your Parking Solutions to New Heights with Unlimited Possibilities

BI tools are evolving at a rapid pace. These tools connect data sets – often from multiple subsets – in one location to remove data friction. They're helping organizations visualize their most important metrics to gain significant insights. Property managers and owners prioritize this data analysis to empower business users with the intuition they need to improve their parking operations and revenue generation while eliminating inefficiencies.

Data analysis allows you to make period-over-period comparisons in all areas of your operation, including metrics like revenue, reservations, validations, payment types, occupancy rates, and customer types. Comparisons give you that moment-in-time view of how your operation is doing and are usually the first sign that something has changed or is out of alignment. It's also a good measure to see how modifications to your parking program are affecting your standards. Noticing critical differences while analyzing your data will be an early gauge of the level of success of changes, external influences, and the overall “health” of your parking operation.

After the fact, it is vital to streamline your on and offline strategy by connecting both data sets so you can understand how many people were referred to your site from a Google Ad, rather than relying on conversions and potential projections. This can be achieved by connecting data sets with technologies such as barcode readers or pin codes — for example, if you provide customers with a coupon code, pin code technology lets customers use that code.

Tracking KPIs also lets you introduce dynamic pricing structures– the number one proposition for all businesses. Businesses and parking operations have leveraged dynamic pricing strategies for years. The hospitality industry and organizations such as Uber are great examples of how companies can benefit from using dynamic pricing algorithms that automatically adjust rates at any given time based on variables such as time of day and supply and demand.

The first step to getting started with dynamic pricing is collecting parking occupancy data. This can be done with smart sensor technologies such as Park Assist that allow you to track and monitor real-time parking occupancy and set rates dependent upon occupancy targets allocated to that period. In addition to occupancy, sensor technologies often associated with parking guidance systems can help reduce traffic caused by drivers searching for parking by 37%; it can also be integrated with "find my car" functionalities, which can help you understand if there is room for improvement with your signage and wayfinding strategy.

When operating on a dynamic pricing structure, it is common for property managers to raise rates during peak times and lower rates during downtimes.

The Future of BI in Parking

People used to fuel technology. Today, it’s the other way around. Customers’ expectations are changing; they demand more advanced technology, more self-serve options, more choice, and more security. Because of this, owners and parking operators must adapt to newly emerging trends quickly.

But how is parking management staying on track with client and consumer expectations regarding technology? It's simple: One platform for everything parking.

What if technology could allow you to manage every aspect of your parking operation from one centralized hub? This is the inevitable future of parking management, a singular platform with everything you need to build a successful parking management strategy, including data visualization, real-time reporting, artificial intelligence, live central monitoring and remote control.

The Power of Loyalty Programs

Integrating your parking with an existing loyalty program effectively secures recurring revenue and connects visitor experiences. In most cases, this can be achieved with a simple hardware integration or upgrade such as Barcode and QR code scanners and geofencing. You can even build a loyalty program using license plate recognition.

Organizations should never underestimate the impact that creating a reputable and robust loyalty program can have on your customers and your business's overall success. Customers can make or break a business which is why customer loyalty is a powerful asset.

Creating meaningful engagements and acquiring loyalty for your brand begins with thoroughly understanding your customers and their behaviour. Collecting valuable data about the type of people that frequent your business or facility helps you make more informed decisions regarding your operations strategy. It is also critical in helping you build a loyalty program suited to your customer base.

But how can you ensure your loyalty program exceeds standards to secure your current customers while continuing to obtain new ones? This is where you need to delve into the mechanics of what makes a successful loyalty program by focusing on the key factors that influence consumers into placing their ongoing support into a brand.

There are seven key components that can help lead to long term brand engagement:

  • Access: Do you give me exclusive access? Do you make me feel special and recognize me?

  • Know Me: Do you know and remember me? Is the program experience tailored to my personal preferences?

  • Time: Do you save me time? Provide me with ease and convenience?

  • Learning: Do you enhance my experience by providing relevant information?

  • Financial: Do you save me money? Do you give me added value as I spend more?

  • Communications: Do you send me relevant communications that are worth my time?

  • Safety: Do you make me feel secure – both with my data and in physical interactions?

The next step in building a successful loyalty program is understanding what data you should be collecting and how you can leverage these data sets to create meaningful engagements and deepen relationships along the customer journey.

When collecting customer data, it is essential to be completely transparent about what data you are collecting, why you are collecting it, and what you will do to ensure the data stays secure. There must also always be a value exchange involved in the data collection process. Collected data help you obtain valuable insights about your customers, so ask yourself what you can offer them of value in return? Providing benefits behind your data collection will encourage customers to willingly share data with you and help personalize the customer journey and tailor your loyalty program to each consumer's specific needs.

7 min read

It cannot be denied that the airport industry has experienced immanent setbacks over the past two years, requiring a greater focus on revenue generation. However, a post-pandemic world is on the horizon and airports across the country are beginning to see a return in visitors with a new need for easier, safer, and faster experiences—and this includes parking.

The secret for a successful recovery is simple—managing your airport parking operation using innovative technologies that benefit you and your visitors.

We recently hosted an insightful discussion on the top innovative technology trends that will result in successful airport parking management, efficient performance and more significant revenues. The panel comprised industry experts Andrew Sgorlon, Technical Sales Manager and Adamo Donatucci, Business Development and Strategy Officer at Precise ParkLink, and guest speaker , CEO of the Airport Management Council of Ontario.

In case you missed our webinar on The Ultimate Comeback for Profitable Airport Parking Management, we’ve summarized the key discussion points for you.

Canadian Market Update: An Airports Need for Revenue Generation

COVID 19 brought about many changes to Canada’s airports – particularly the loss of passengers and revenue. Nearly 75 to 100% reductions in passenger service were seen at regional airports. In most cases, revenues were also reduced by these levels. However, as an essential service, there was no option to cease operating. Airports provide lifesaving services such as medevacs and cargo transport for items such as vaccines. The cost of operations increased due to higher health and safety standards.

Traditionally an airport’s revenue has been very heavily tied to passenger use. The industry is hopeful for an increase of passengers this year, with a return to 2019 levels not projected to happen for several years. Therefore, there must be a shift in revenue generation. Increased non-passenger revenues and higher revenue per passenger are critical to a resilient airport system.

Throughout the pandemic, technology has been implemented to ensure a safer experience for passengers. From virtual security lines to biometrics for a touchless boarding process, new technology has helped create healthy and safe airports. Non-passenger-driven revenue generation is one important area to ensure stable income in times of downturns in travel. However, airports of any size can also consider directly providing ground handling and fuelling services. Being in control of the many services at your airport will bring in the most revenue.

Creating a seamless and passenger-friendly experience is the future of airports. At the heart of this is the digitization of the passenger experience. Using intelligent data solutions will help airports to increase revenue. These solutions can be implemented at both large AND small airports. By capturing the passenger's information, airports can target their advertising and create custom packages that encourage a higher spend rate. A custom package could include pre-purchasing parking and a meal at an overall discounted rate. Still, it may increase revenue if the customer may otherwise not have chosen to park at the airport.

By knowing your parking audience, airports will assess the need for parking accessories such as electric charging facilities. They will also be able to identify the time of day when parking lots are at/near capacity and which parking spaces are taken first and charge a premium during peak times or for highly desirable spots.

Tracking passenger trends can help identify bottlenecks in the system and work to become a more efficient, passenger-friendly airport. When passengers have a better, faster experience, they have time and patience to spend more money on concessions. This information can also help to identify missed revenue opportunities. Passenger airport flow can also determine where people dwell and at what time; airports can then charge a premium for advertising in that space.

This type of shift in thinking that airports are using to recover lost passenger revenue for the last two years. Technology will remain critical to recovery and the future development of the aviation industry. The industry is going through a transformation as it emerges from the pandemic, and the technological shift has been expedited in its wake. Whether large or small, airports can use technology and creative thinking to increase their revenues and remain sustainable.

Traditional Parking Management Services is No Longer Sufficient

Enabling Euro Mastercard Visa payment acceptance on all of your devices and applications ensures you comply with the latest payment card industry requirements for all payments being made at your facility.

Accessibility

At the forefront of any successful airport, parking operation is accessible design. Abiding by the following Canadian Standards Association (CSA) requirements will ensure all visitors can access and use your facility with ease:

  • CSA B651-18: Accessible Design for the Built Environment

  • CSA B651.2: Accessible Design for Self-Service Interactive Device

To ensure all of your visitors can pay for parking quickly, there are four accessibility enhancements to consider: full-touch and interactive display screens, contactless payment options, assistive software additions, and easy-to-read, visible signage.

Enforcement

License plate recognition (LPR) enforcement improves accuracy and reduces dispute rates. Utilizing enforcement by mounted vehicle camera or by foot lets the technology do the heavy lifting:

  • Records and associates license plates with vehicle image to violation

  • Improves patrolling accuracy, reduces disputes

  • It eliminates the need for patrol officers to verify license plates manually

  • Automatically accounts for "special rules" associated with permits

Dynamic Pricing

Integrations such as parking guidance systems with camera technology can be used as an outlet to introduce dynamic pricing models based on occupancy data based on:

  • Time of day

  • Date/time of year

  • Customer type

  • Parking stall location

Business Intelligence & Data Collection

If you do not have access to real-time parking data, implementing smart technologies such as parking access, revenue control systems, license plate recognition, and parking guidance systems will allow you to fuel future growth. Real-time data and analytics can help you draw conclusions about your operational performance and give you an inside look at key performance indicators (KPIs) such as parking occupancy, payment methods, and revenue streams.

Curbside Management and Monetization

Business intelligence and data collection is the starting point for curbside management and monetization. It allows you to:

  • Gather data required to make inventory decisions

  • Decide how to attract and monetize pick up and drop-offs

  • Allocate, manage and control the curb for

  • Optimized mobility, safety, access

  • Offload non-curb traffic to parking lots

Enhancing Parking Management Services with Technology

Utilizing multi-platform integrations allows you to connect the visitor journey at every touchpoint-- from the moment they park to when they arrive at the gate. But it doesn't stop there. Using creative thinking to enhance your parking with last-mile solutions such as care services, vending machines, events, and more will ensure your facility is securing additional revenue streams beyond parking. Leveraging full-power marketing allows you to increase reservations and short-term parking using:

  • Search engine optimization (SEO)

  • Pre-book online sales

  • Loyalty programs

  • Online advertisements

  • Online maps and in-car navigation

The Questions You Should Be Asking

Now that you are aware of how you can enhance traditional parking management services with contemporary technologies, there are a few questions to consider before you do so.

To ensure that your airport parking management strategy is set for success, it is important to consider the management, hardware, and software possibilities that will allow you to get the most out of your operation:

  • What am I doing for revenue generation that also satisfies end-user experiences?

  • Are gates suitable for my parking lot?

  • Can I use BI to control onsite parameters?

7.5 min read

Mobility is the driving force that has made society what it is today—intelligent and connected—outcomes of our ever-changing need for more convenience, more choice and more ease. And the desire to move from point A to point Z with more connectivity, flexibility, and simplicity. So we can live, work and play with nothing in our way.

Together, we can achieve just this. How? Through a collective effort from municipalities, businesses, and people, we can transform the world we know today into something more digitized, adaptable, and connected.

To meet society's growing needs, there has been a shift in how we go about our daily lives. From the devices we use to our everyday interactions and every moment in between, the emergence of urban mobility intelligence is here to stay.

It is essential to know that urban mobility isn't a destination; it's a mindset—one that encourages the interconnectivity of leveraging all assets in a single, cohesive manner.

However, the broad scope and complexity associated with diverse connectivity is the reason why the concept is not easily understood. Naturally, when something is not understood, it cannot be acted on.

That is why Precise ParkLink recently hosted an  highlighting the ins and outs of urban mobility intelligence and the roles required to achieve it. The panel was comprised of industry experts , Sr. Vice President, Digital Buildings, Experiences and Innovation at , , Sr. Vice President of Digital Services at and Adamo Donatucci, Business Development and Strategy Officer at Precise ParkLink.

In case you missed the , we've summarized the key discussion points for you:

The Urgency Behind Becoming Smart: Smart Buildings, Smart Cities, Smart Societies

Urban mobility is a broad concept, one that derives from the onset of smart cities. , Sr. Vice President of Digital Services from Flowbird, describes an intelligent city is utilizing today's "internet of things," connecting everything that happens within that environment. How people and things move within an urban environment is a direct result of the smart city strategy. The concept of urban mobility is trying to make your movement within the city as easy as possible. But that's not all. It also aims to combine three different constraints, including less congestion, less traffic, and everything tied to the environment. Everything that happens within a city constitutes roughly 70% of all pollution. That is why achieving urban mobility intelligence is no longer a desire but a necessity.

The Business Proposition: For You, For Us, For All Of Society

The notion of connecting people has evolved into connecting everything from people to things and everything in between. Various industries now realize the importance of digital transformation. , Sr. Vice President, Digital Buildings, Experiences and Innovation from QuadReal, states that we must start changing how we do business to drive on several different business outcomes. Whether to enhance sustainability, improve productivity, decrease costs, or increase revenues, there are several business drivers directly affected by digital transformation that we can all benefit from. Taking the time to build your digital strategy with key partners and stakeholders will allow you to derive critical objectives you are looking to meet with the help of urban mobility intelligence.

The Technologies It Takes: Becoming Smart, Efficient and Truly Intelligent

Creating seamless experiences starts with touchless technologies. Access control software and hardware that leverage mobile devices span far beyond the traditional monthly pass. Adamo Donatucci, Business Development and Strategy Officer from Precise ParkLink, explains that flexible work schedules have greatly influenced the parking industry because clients want customizable solutions to meet their new business, tenant and customer needs. An example of meeting society's needs from a parking perspective is digital and pay-as-you-go permits that complement diverse work schedules.

Technologies in parking continue to evolve, with last-mile services becoming an increasing demand as parking facilities transform from a place to park your car to a destination that can connect you at all points of your journey-- from the moment you leave your home to when you arrive at your destination.

The First Steps: Revolutionizing, Growing and Achieving Authentic Smart Mobility

To achieve urban mobility intelligence, all municipalities, organizations and people need to come together to drive this change. Although governments play a significant role in achieving this, private and public enterprises must also collaborate to leverage resources and technology that result in digital transformation.

It's important to note, however, that the municipality plays an integral role in whether or not the drive to change is successful and becomes a cultural shift amongst society. Marketing and communications for the utilization of new, technologically advanced, smart-mobility solutions must stem from the municipal level to stimulate rising connectivity throughout a city.

A significant component of maintaining momentum towards achieving and maintaining urban mobility intelligence is partnering with technology companies that develop and support intelligent, open-source software solutions. These technology partners must be willing to integrate with third-party platforms to evolve with needs at the government, private and societal levels.

As countries like Canada are widespread and heavily dispersed, driving remains and will continue to remain the chosen mode of transportation amongst Canadians; resulting in parking being central to the urban livelihood and an integral component to achieving urban mobility intelligence. Deploying automated, smart parking solutions is an easy first step organizations and municipalities can take to connect their visitor experiences from the moment they park to the moment they arrive and everywhere in between.

Webinar Roundup: Boost Your Rick Hansen Certified Accessibility Rating With Accessible TechnologyUncategorizedFri, 28 May 2021 14:07:21 +0000/event-news/webinar-roundup-boost-your-rick-hansen-certified-accessibility-rating-with-accessible-technology606df7dd6b47261d19840040:607e0c7eef0b2d7262964182:60ad79071e3bae3d5772dc197 min read

Did you know that more than 7 million Canadians live with some form of a disability? That is what makes accessibility a crucial topic that is sparking change across Canada. Now, more than ever, it is critical for facilities to invest in accessible products and devices that their employees and visitors can use with ease. At Precise ParkLink, we are committed to helping organizations like yours meet Canada’s accessibility standards and bring you that much closer to gaining a .

You may be asking yourself, what is the Rick Hansen Foundation Certified Accessibility Rating, and why is it essential for my facility? The Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) is a national rating system that measures and certifies the level of meaningful access throughout the built environment. An RHFAC rating helps you to understand the physical accessibility of your site better, identify barriers for your community, customers, or employees, and makes suggestions on how you can improve those barriers.

If you couldn't attend our most recent webinar Boost Your Rick Hansen Certified Accessibility Rating With Accessible Technology, hosted by Andrew Sgorlon, Technical Sales Support Manager here at Precise ParkLink, and special guest speakers Samantha Proulx, C.E.T., RHFAC, BCIN from and Yvonne Geverink from , not to worry! We're sharing the key takeaways from our discussion about the steps you can take to get RHFAC certified and boost your facility's accessibility rating to its maximum potential.

Canadian Accessibility Requirements

In today’s society, we are moving in a direction where all controls and all devices used by people at a facility should be accessible.

, otherwise known as Bill-C81, was the first-ever accessibility legislation passed in Canada in June 2019. The purpose of this bill is to identify, remove, and prevent accessibility barriers to benefit all Canadians, especially those with disabilities. The Accessible Canada Act aims to make Canada barrier-free by January 1, 2040.

was designed to help businesses prepare for the changing regulatory environment and impending accessibility legislations. This program measures the level of meaningful access throughout the built environment and rates your company on its level of accessibility.

RHFAC offers two levels of certification: RHF Accessibility Certified Gold and RHF Accessibility Certified. To obtain the standard accessibility certification, a facility must have a 60-80% rating score and meet all mandatory certification requirements. To become Gold certified, a facility must have a rating of 80% or higher and meet and exceed the compulsory Gold certification requirements.

Certifying your facility as accessible or Gold accessible not only impacts the building environment but provides room for community engagement and economic growth for your business.

Case Study: The New Cortelluci Vaughan Hospital

The Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, operated by , is the first hospital in Canada to feature a fully integrated smart technology system. Opened in February 2021 as a COVID-19 pivot hospital, the Cortelluci Vaughan Hospital prides itself on being one of the first “Smart Hospitals” in Canada.

The new Vaughan hospital decided to take a different approach to their parking system, upgrading to the new skiosk pay stations. The accessibility features of the skiosks were the main selling point for the hospital and helped contribute to their “Smart Hospital” vision.

Skiosk: Canada’s First Fully Accessible Parking Pay Stations

Introducing the Skiosk Family: Canada’s first fully accessible class of parking pay stations. Precise ParkLink is proud to offer this innovative line of accessible pay stations, including the skiosk Smart, the skiosk Lite, and the skiosk Slim.

But what makes these parking pay stations so accessible?

  • Accessibility Standards: They meet and exceed all Canadian Accessibility criteria

  • Contemporary Design: User-friendly design, which includes a full touch screen display with an adjustable height

  • Payment Acceptance: A variety of payment options are available, including coins, banknotes, mobile wallets, credit, and debit, tap-and-go, chip-and-pin, as well as a QR and barcode scanner for reservations and validations

  • Customizable Controls: All operating controls of the device are within the 400 mm to 1200 mm height interaction point

  • Customer Service: Provides remote customer service via a two-way audio and video intercom system with adjustable volume controls and a microphone to ensure the users can get the assistance they need when they need it

  • Innovative Software: Business Intelligence Tools, Advanced Reporting and live central monitoring are provided to ensure your pay stations are continuously operating at peak performance

Parking Accessibility Compliance

To build and maintain an accessible parking program at your facility, it is critical to focus on four core interaction elements:

  • Location and Environment: The location of your parking pay station dictates how simple it is to navigate and use

  • Interactive Hardware Components: The functionality of the display screen and the availability of different payment options are crucial hardware components in ensuring you comply with accessibility standards

  • Interactive Software Components: To foster independence and readily available assistance, a parking pay station should include interactive software components

  • Instructions, Prompts, and Visibility: One of the critical elements of an accessible parking pay station is providing the user with perceptible information via instructions, prompts, and enhanced visibility

Going the Extra mile to comply with Canadian Accessibility Requirements

Accessibility standards vary across the world. Even within Ontario, norms may differ from City to City. Still, it's best to find a happy medium to ensure you meet the needs of anyone visiting or working at your facility.

The new mindset is to go above and beyond these standards to create better, more meaningful access. Accessibility improves experiences for everyone, whether you have a disability or not. When a business invests in accessible parking pay stations, they create an inclusive and sustainable environment that allows people to feel comfortable throughout their entire journey.

At Precise ParkLink, our goal is to develop and maintain parking equipment that meets and exceeds the accessibility standards within the parking an mobility industry. Join us on this journey towards a more accessible and inclusive Canada for all!

The future of Canadian autonomy is sustainable, with plans to transition to complete electric mobility by 2040. This goal remains top-of-mind for organizations across the country as the demand for EVs continues to rise—with no intent on slowing down. At Precise ParkLink, we are committed to helping organizations like yours fulfill this quest with our full suite of electric vehicle charging stations that can meet and exceed your unique business needs.

There is a slew of questions you may be asking yourself when it comes to investing in EV charging stations, such as: What government incentives are available to my organization? What costs do I need to consider when investing in EV charging stations?  Which EV charging stations are the best fit for my parking facility? And most importantly, how can a connected EV charging network improve my business?

If you couldn't attend our most recent webinar, Everything You Need To Know About Installing EV Charging Stations In 2021, co-hosted by , you’re in luck! We're sharing the key takeaways from our discussion about the benefits of installing EV charging stations and what you need to consider before getting started.

2021 Government Incentive Programs

For many, the purchase and deployment of EV charging stations is a considerable investment and not a decision made without thorough research. You may be trying to evaluate how to justify the initial investment financially and how the benefits outweigh the cost. To make this investment more feasible, the Canadian Government offers several government incentive programs provided by . This includes the , with applications due before June 22nd. As an experienced EV solutions provider, the team here at Precise ParkLink is well versed in the government incentive program application process. We have assisted many of our clients in navigating the application process to obtain applicable funding.

Understanding Your Business Needs

When investing in EV chargers, it is vital to understand your specific business needs to choose the right EV charging solution for your facility. There’s a wide array of EV charging station models available. Key considerations such as the location of your lot, how many ports you require, and your customers' behaviour is vital when making your investment decision. Are your visitors looking for a quick stop to top up their battery, or are they plugging in and returning several hours later? For quick stops like gas stations or airport cell phone lots, Level 2 chargers are an ideal investment. If your facility services vehicles that park and plugin for several hours, Level 3 fast chargers might be more suitable.

ChargePoint’s Network Solution And Software

ChargePoint offers the most advanced software and services in the global market. When partnering with Precise ParkLink and ChargePoint, you have unlimited access to the following:

  • Access Control- Limit who can use the charging stations and when. Station owners can disable charging during “closed” times.

  • Fleet Services- Fleet managers can track vehicle charging and pay for electricity if they need to charge at other stations.

  • Driver Services- Automatically notify drivers of a full charge, available station, power changes, and more.

  • APIs- Most functions are also available through SOAP/XML and REST APIs that follow the same data access rules as the UI.
